The UK Department for International Development and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs supported a team of 8 ODI researchers and 30 research collaborators in ten countries (in Asia: Indonesia, Cambodia and Bangladesh; in South America: Bolivia; and in Africa: Benin, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda and Zambia) to examine the effects of the global financial crisis. We are all grateful for the support received.

The research involved a workshop in London, consultations in each country, and synthesis reviews. It aims to inform key policy processes and international discussions on the actual effects of and appropriate policy responses to the global financial crisis.

This paper is an initial draft synthesis of the 10 country case studies based on the draft papers. It will be followed by more in depth syntheses and final reports to be released in April/May 2009.
