Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a serious national crisis and often originates with substance use in adolescence. A vast body of research shows that FDA-approved medications can effectively treat OUD, but most adolescents are not receiving these treatments. The number of treatment facilities offering both adolescent services and medication-assisted treatment for adolescent OUD is limited across the US. This fact sheet provides information on treatment capacity in three Ohio counties where stakeholders have prioritized addressing adolescent OUD (Warren, Pickaway, and Franklin) and on how prescribers can help increase access to treatment.

This fact sheet was developed as part of a project with our policy partners at the Addiction Policy Forum to provide evidence-based strategies to guide local efforts aimed at preventing and treating adolescent OUD in selected Ohio communities.
