Between January and February 2018, Civic Exchange conducted a 3,604-respondent survey on visiting habits and perceptions of open space quality in Hong Kong. The survey sampled 200 residents from each district and  covered eight different types of urban recreational open spaces – small playgrounds and sitting out areas, medium or large parks, outdoor sports facilities, podium gardens or plazas in shopping malls, seafront or riverfront
promenades, unofficial open spaces,1 open spaces in public housing estates, and open spaces in private housing developments. Four focus groups with eight participants each were held to obtain more qualitative insight into people’s views.
This document summarises the major findings from Hong Kong’s 18 districts to enable district councillors, local concern groups, residents, members of the media, and others to more easily make comparisons between districts.
