摘要	Open-pit lignite mining creates significant impacts on the environment as well as conflicts within the socio-economic system in such areas. Generally any open-pit mining activity affects both groundwater and surface water resources. These problems concern especially countries in central and eastern europe, in particular, the GDR, FRG, CSSR, and poland, but also in asia and the USA.
